Healthy Body, Healthy Mind

The Mind and Body are often thought to be two distinct entities, but mental health and physical health should not be thought of as being separate. Poor physical health can increase the possibility of developing mental health problems, just as poor mental health can negatively impact physical health.

For the Central Minds team, our passion is to help people restore their health and regain movement, often working on cases that are complex, chronic or hard to crack. Many of our patients have undergone multiple other modes of treatment, but have not achieved the results they desire.

We offer conventional physiotherapy, which is well-suited to combatting issues such as knee pain, back pain and neck pain. From a sprained ankle to recovery from surgery, physiotherapy is designed to alleviate pain and restore a full range of movement.

Therapist Wendy Lam seeks to establish the underlying tension in the fascia or nerves, and address any issues through hands-on manual techniques.

It is important to view each patient as a whole. For instance, hip restriction or hip pain may be the result of musculoskeletal dysfunction stemming from an old ankle injury that transmits itself up the leg. Poor posture from sitting incorrectly at a desk may be inhibiting proper muscle recruitment.

Central Minds also offers complementary alternative therapies such as Acupuncture, Integrative Manual Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy, as well as dietary and lifestyle advice.

These treatments share a common theme: they look beyond the “What” of a condition and seek to establish the “Why.”

Two patients may have the same conventional diagnosis, and similar issues that stem from completely different sources. Our treatment differs in that it always seeks the underlying source of the problem, rather than simply trying to alleviate symptoms.

Lower-back pain may stem from a herniated disc, but it can also link to misalignment and titling of the pelvis, to compensate for an old leg injury. Central Minds will dig in to find the underlying reasons behind dysfunction and pain. “What is this muscle spasm trying to protect?” “Why does the nervous system keep firing the pain signal?”

Acupuncture, in its modern application, can be used to target joint pain and muscular tension but also hard-to-isolate conditions like anxiety, stress, sleep problems, tension headaches and fatigue.

At Central Minds, We Offer:

Acupuncture is informed by centuries of learning, based on Chinese Medicine; whilst Integrative Manual Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy are modern practices that nevertheless share some philosophical concepts of Asian medicine.

Acupuncture, in its modern application can be used to target joint pain and muscular tension but also hard-to-isolate conditions like anxiety, stress, sleep problems, tension headaches and fatigue.

Integrative Manual Therapy deploys an intimate knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology in the treatment regimen. Practitioners use techniques such as applying gentle pressure to normalize the biological rhythms of the body, to improve the functioning and health of the tissues. It helps the individual to heal fully, recover, and thrive from the inside out.

Craniosacral Therapy can help with conditions as diverse as chronic fatigue, immune disorders, migraines, post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, and learning disabilities in children. It treats the system surrounding the brain and spine, improving the flow of cerebrospinal fluid all the way along the spinal cord and the nervous tissues that surround it.

Hear What They Say

“Wendy is an amazing physiotherapist! She is very thorough and takes her time while working on the body to release tension or work on realignment. I love her sessions because she is really there to treat you and not like other therapists who leave you hooked up on a machine. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs to work on shoulder tension, migraines and lower back pain. She is wonderful!”

“Wendy was considerate and professional; she really listened to my issue and the history of it to ensure she could tailor her treatment appropriately. I had noticeable improvement in my injury following my treatment with her. Would definitely return in the future.”

About Wendy Lam

Wendy is a Holistic Physiotherapist with extensive training in both Hong Kong and the United States. She integrates Physiotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Integrative Manual Therapy, Acupuncture and other gentle and effective healing modalities to facilitate optimum recovery and healing in children and adult patients.

With her years of practice, Wendy finds that every individual needs a different “formula” or treatment protocol to help with their specific problem. Whether the pain is acute or chronic, sports, injury or posture-related, with or without numbness or referred pain, she believes that understanding the uniqueness of the individual and the interconnection of different parts of the body helps yield more desirable outcomes.

Central Minds, does not accept direct billing from insurance companies. You would have to pay for your session directly and then have your insurance company reimburse you for the payment. Our therapists are happy to fill out any forms that your insurance company provides you with or provide you with a diagnosis on the paid receipt, which can be used to claim from your Insurance company.

Please check with your insurance carrier if a referral letter from a general practitioner/primary doctor is needed for reimbursement.

Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive, gentle, applied healing technique that concentrates on a wave-like rhythmic pulse that passes through the whole body. This is a method that emphasizes the role of musculoskeletal system in health & disease.

In this therapy, the physiotherapist makes light contact with gentle finger pressure at selected points near the head, torso, feet and knees to note the observations at selected points and in the craniosacral system (the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord).

The aim of CST is to get rid of limitations in the body to improve the functioning of the central nervous system as this is the root cause of many structural and spinal disparities.
